Using the traditional Upper Plains legend Iktomi as a comic character, the animated Story of Iktomi was produced for the Standing Rock Diabetes Program. In the opening episode, Iktomi the trickster learns he has diabetes, and begins to discover how to live well with the disease. Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service continued the story with Iktomi episodes on diabetes foot care, mental health, nutrition and fitness. The entire series was recently compiled on DVD with multimedia extras.
